Not to be feared, those three special words: “I am Bored!”
I love it when Zed says this. I know that just around the corner is something amazing – a new Lego creation, an invention, a game out of sticks and pine cones, or . . . ?
So when I hear this childhood rant that paralyzes some parents, a little thrill runs through me. Zed is right on track in his child development. And I get to help by letting him have that boredom. Because, given a little time on his own, he’ll find a way to move past it.
The Moving Smart blog site has a great post on this topic. Gill Connell outlines the benefits of boredom and provides “Disbordoment” Strategies. I love that term. Click here to check it out.
What do YOU do when your child sends out this cry? I’d love to know.
Thanks for sharing. Great to meet you!
You’ve got a great site. I have a background in dance and movement education so I really celebrate your emphasis on movement. “A Moving Child is a Learning Child!” Thanks, Gill
